Hello!
I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of months now, and am finally posting my first question!
i currently have coconut oil on my hair ready to bleach this afternoon I then plan to use Joico K-Pak straight after the bleach, let it dry without conditioner, then apply a directions hair dye (Violet) to leave on as long as possible hopefully overnight.
Is this the right order to do things, or should I put on the directions after the bleach and K-Pak later?
Love this forum! *1*
I would put the dye after bleach. If you want to put the kpak after bleach, you will need to clarify your hair before putting on the dye.
I bleach then kpak, then deep moisturise then i colour following day after I've clarified.
Thanks for the replies ladies!
Still haven't decided which way to do it yet, but am off to bleach for now and then will ponder further π
I do the same as Sia
I bleach, dye and then k-pak.
i bleach, k pak for a few hours, shampoo then dye overnight as veggie dyes will do the same job a moisturising conditioner does after a regular round of reconstructing
Good question. It doesn't entirely apply to me because I usually only ever use dyes as toners at varying saturations, so I'm not after the intense colours.
But I suppose the question is, as K-Pak is considered mostly a "protein" treatment and not necessarily the "moisturising" step, will it affect dye uptake the same way a pure moisturiser would? I've applied diluted dyes (mixed with silicone-free conditioners) directly after doing bleach/roots in the past, and other times, I'd apply the dye after conditioning first, and I've never really noticed a difference myself.
I think I'm a bit lazy to be honest and want things done as quickly as possible (lol), so whenever I can, I'd dye right after doing any bleaching/root treatment to avoid having to do yet another treatment and saturate my hair a third time. Then use protein for the next shampoo or a keratin treatment directly after the dye.
But if I've picked up correctly from this forum, semis themselves are moisturising to the hair, so I'd see no problem in using K-Pak first, then a dye afterwards as part of the moisturising treatment, just as long as the protein doesn't prevent the dye from working to its full capacity.
Thanks for all your responses. It's interesting there's so many ways to do it!
I bleached then let it dry using no conditioner or treatment to see how it looked, and it was very blonde like goldilocks.
Once it was nearly dry I whacked on the directions violet diluted with conditioner a couple of hours ago, and will probably leave it another hour or so before I wash it out.
Will then do a k-pak treatment in the next week or so depending how it feels.
I only k-pak'd a couple of weeks ago anyway and I was too impatient try a new colour π
But I suppose the question is, as K-Pak is considered mostly a "protein" treatment and not necessarily the "moisturising" step, will it affect dye uptake the same way a pure moisturiser would?
Really, the main job of conditioner is to seal down the cuticle. This is what stops dyes working effectively. The whole moisture thing is pretty new.
