Bleach highlights - to bottle blonde

Hi all.

I've always had bleached blonde highlights, but I have got to the point where I can not afford to have it done at the hairdressers. So my question is can I put a blonde colour on it that I can buy from a shop and apply myself? I am naturally medium brown colour. What sort of dye and shade could I go for?
Any advice greatly appreciated πŸ™‚

So do you have highlights in your hair now? If you put blonde dye over all your hair the already lightened areas are likely to break off.
Or did you want to do your own highlights? This is possible, but quite fiddly to do on yourself, easier if  you have a friend to help. It will be better to use bleach rather than a permanent dye, as you will get more lift. If you don't get enough lift on the first attempt with highlights it is very difficult to correct as it would mean trying to section off the same hair again.
Do you have a pic of your current colour?

Hi, I last had bleach highlights in about six months ago, I wouldn't mind doing the highlights myself but I don't have anyone to help me and if I can attach the photos you can see my hairs quite thick amd takes alot of time with doing it with a cap.

Its hard to get a full pic of hair due to image size.

I personally wouldnt attempt highlights to match salon ones by myself, doing roots ones is even trickier too! That's coming from someone trained to do them as well! Unless, however, you use the cap method. This isnt so bad. (it's not used here much anymore)

This is always a difficult one to advise though, my best friend asked me the same and to be honest to maintain that colour easy at home theres not many ways to unless you want to dice with potential damage.

However judging by your picture the lengths and ends arent so much highlights anymore - theres more highlights than natural colour. Would that be right? Could make things easier!

Hi Swilks,
Yeah I'd say its not so much highlights anymore, would that be easier to put a dark blonde on all over?
