Bleach hair already dyed with Directions Violet?

Hi,

I have bleached the "outgrowth" on my hair (Mood 105, 7 tones lighter) and it turned yellow/orange.  *ott*

I followed the instructions on the package and had the bleach in for 1 hour. I then used a tiny bit of Directions semi-permanent hair dye "Violet" with conditioner and left in my hair so the biggest parts of the yellow/orange hair got neutral and silvery/cool instead. But I have to keep up with this everythime I wash my hair. Annoying.

I got the advice to blech the yellow/orange parts again with a more gentle bleacher, like 1-2 tones lighter. I was recommended L'oreal Casting Glossy Blondes 1021 which is said to remove yellow tones and could be used on highlights. It bleaches up to 1,5 tones.

So, could I use this over the hair I have had Directions' Violet on? Or will it appear red or something? The Directions hair color is not like "ordinary" hair dye, since it is washed away in 1-2 washes. Esp since I use like a one ml measuring spoon in my whole hair, just to get the cold tone. But I still want to know if there could be any problem. I am afraid to try it out myself and see what happens. I do not want to destroy my hair more. And I do not want to wait for like 2 weeks with yellow/orange hair either until it's washed away.

*thx*

Don't use the L'oreal Casting then.

I have to admit I'm a little confused what you're asking. You want to use the L'oreal Casting on the already bleached hair? The L'oreal Casting is basically still a bleach, it will just deposit some colour as a well. It's still likely to wash out and you'd have to top it up with the Directions anyway.

Have you tried using a silver/purple shampoo? Using that or carrying on with the Directions mixed in conditioner is far, FAR better than bleaching the hair again. Sometimes we just have to go the slightly more lengthy route to get results and not damage our hair too much.

No, I do not want to use the L'oreal Casting if it leaves my hair even more discolored (aka destroyed), as I am asking about.

My question is summarised in the subject line. Is it possible to use the L'oreal Casting over the hair which is used with the Directions Violet? My hair has clearly not been bleached enough, since it's orange/yellow, and the recommendation usually say to try bleaching it again with a more mild bleaching, like this one (up to 1,5 tones lighter) and the L'oreal Casting is also said to remove the yellow tones.

I do not understand what you mean by the word "deposit" in sentence "it will just deposit some colour as a well". A bleaching like L'oreal Casting will not be washed out. Bleaching is permanent. Or have I misunderstood what you have written?

The method I have used with Directions + conditioner is a silvering treatment. Normal silver conditioners/shampoos are too pale to affect my hair. Nothing happens. And if it would have worked, I'd still have to use it every time I wash my hair, which I have stated I do not want to.

There must be a more permanent solution to this.

Right, what the loreal is, is a bleach AND colour, it does both jobs at the same time. It uses, normally, subtle purple tones to tone the yellow left when bleaching. This is what will be washed out and the part doing the same job as you using the directions. Of course bleaching is permanent! πŸ™‚

There is no true permanent solution that won't damage hair further. But, the colour in the loreal can be washed out, most would say fade, but it amounts to the same thing. So there is no true permanent colour.

What I would suggest is to do a gentle bleach bath to lighten the hair a bit further if it's not quite light enough (though I thought it was as you'd said

"I then used a tiny bit of Directions semi-permanent hair dye "Violet" with conditioner and left in my hair so the biggest parts of the yellow/orange hair got neutral and silvery/cool instead"

That's the result I'd expect. What were you expecting? I hadn't noticed the word instead there the first time I read it. But that is why I didn't suggest a bleach bath before, as I said, I was a bit confused what you were asking. It seemed more like you were just asking for a more permanent solution to toning your hair. To me, the most important part is the not wanting to damage your hair further. Any permanent colour/bleach process will damage hair further.

So no, there is no permanent solution that will not damage your hair further.

To your thread title, yes, you can use the bleach/tint mentioned on hair dyed with directions, but it's better to remove the colour first to get a true result. To do it quickly, use a colour remover like colourb4 or color oops.

However, make sure it's been more than a month since your last bleach session. Bleaching more than once a month is a bad thing. I'd definitely suggest a bleach bath, as I mentioned before and then toning after.

I am a little confused by your post. First you say your Violet toner washes out after one wash, but then you say you don't want to wait 2 weeks for it to wash out.
I would give it a good shampoo with clarifying shampoo or similar before using any form of bleach as it can go green otherwise.
I agree with Janine, if you want to lighten further wait at least a month and use a low peroxide method such as a bleach bath.
If it is just your roots, what colour is the rest of your hair?
