*ott*
I tried to go dark in the summer of 2013. It stuck to my hair long story so my hair salon decided it would be a good idea to bleach out the hair dye. Let me tell you this was done in late september of 2013, and I still 6 or 7 inches of bleach in my hair and I have only shoulder length hair! meanwhile it is falling out slowly from the root...day by day:(
i couldn't be any sadder and am thinking of going in for the pixie (at least my hair will be healthy).
one other question since its been a year and half and my hair still hasn't grow out how long do you suspect it will take to fully recover/

If your hair growth has almost totally stalled and you are truly loosing lots of hair from the root every day, you really should go to the doctor. In a year and a half, you should easily have grown out almost all of the bleached hair by now with shoulder length hair.
Of course we do lose a certain amount of hair daily naturally, so that could be normal.
Hair is basically dead once it leaves the scalp. Old bleached hair generally won't and can't affect the hair growing in. The only way it can is if you're not getting it cut and split ends etc are running up the hair causing more and more damage.
Have you tried using reconstructors to add protein to your hair?
Something like Joico k-pak reconstructor once a week or every other week might help the condition of your hair. I always leave it on for about 20 minutes and then do a moisturising conditioner too.
The damaged part won't recover, bleach damage is permanent.
I agree with Janine, if it is falling out from the root rather than breaking off due to damage, it is either hormonal, or caused by some other underlying medical issue. I have lost hair in the past due to anemia and a bad reaction to prescription drugs.
It is normal to lose around 100-150 hairs a day though, more at certain points in your growth cycle.
have not tried it. I heard that sometimes protein can make it break off more. I was using deep conditioners for a while but I may just go for the pixie cut because I really want all the bleach out. It's been a year and half which is an insane amount of time to have a hair color that you neither like and having to deal with breaking off and falling out!
Do you bleach your hair, I will look into the treatments...did you notice it falling out as well because this is what I experienced. I just got it cut to pretty short, above shoulder length which is the shortest I've gone in about 10 years and hoping the bleach eventually grows out. Someone told me it can take up to three years to have completely virgin hair:(

when you say bleach damage is permanent...it eventually grows out no?? A little confused. I am going to try and go to a doctor to see if there is an underlying cause but I still believe it is from the bleach because I had extremely healthy hair beforehand.

It's permanent on THAT part of the hair. ONLY the hair that has been bleached. Yes, it grows out.
As I said before, if you have slowed growth and hair is falling out from the root at a much larger volume than before (though honestly, most people only notice just how much they lose daily when they're worried about it) then it's possible you have an underlying medical issue that you need to sort out.
The bleaching WILL NOT have caused any lasting damage to hair growth unless your scalp was seriously damaged when it was bleached.
It also WILL NOT affect hair that has grown from your head since the bleaching. It can't. There is no way it can.
Do you use heat on your hair?
What products do you use?
Have you used any other dyes since the bleach?
Etc etc etc. It might be that something else you're doing is damaging your hair in ways you might not realise. As I said before, after a year and a half I would expect there to be very little, but most likely none, of the bleached hair left in shoulder length hair. This makes me suspect either there's something else you're doing since, or there is an underlying issue.
Protein can cause breakage if you use it too much. I have trouble with it and have to be very sparing, but most people can take a lot.
Nope, never straighten or use heat on it. Someone (a few people) told me it can take up to three years to grow out completely as has happened to them and return its normal appearance? I would say there is definitely still about five inches or so of bleach left at the bottoms. I don't if I just have incredibly slowly growing hair. can't think of anything else that would be damaging to it? Sleeping the wrong way? Running my fingers through it too harshly? Those are the my other alternatives.
Ok, I will be careful not to use too much protein. I feel a deep conditioner like morrocan oil can be beneficial. I am the girl with the bleached hair that is not growing at. As you can see there is difference in my roots versus the bottom color. Like I said I have a least 5 inches still left and just got it cut a bit shorter.
I do bleach my hair and have never had problems with it breaking off. I only bleach my roots every 3-4 months. And dont use high peroxide.
If your hair is falling out from the root then the cause of it is not the bleach and might be a health issue such as hormonal change . For that, you need to see a doctor.
Bleach damage will only break the part of the hair which is bleached.
Like Janine , my hair doesnt like protein so i only do it every other week and only on the ends. Sometimes i will do it after i bleach but not every time.
If all your hair is dry and brittle then it's probably a health issue. Try taking vitamins for the hair. Having an unbalanced diet can also dry out the hair.
My hair grows just over half an inch a month. So in a year, i will have at least 6 inches of growth. Who ever told you that it takes 3 years to grow out bleach probably had very long hair or just did t cut it for a while. For short hair it shouldn't take more than a year to grow out bleach. ( with regular trims)
Spoke to someone else just now and she told me that once she chemically straightened her hair and a ton of it fell out and she told me it took her around 2 years to grow back in! I guess i will have to wait a few more months to see complete virgin hair. I feel that I had some sort of a reaction to the bleach (i.e. my hair couldn't take it). As you can see it's a big organgy where the bleach it. Hence, when I first got it done (had previous pink tones) my hair turned bright orange:(
I feel that potentially 1) I had an allergic reaction to it 2) it was applied incorrectly 3)my hair isn't virgin yet so i feel it will not be completely the same until all the bleach has been removed.
Is there a difference between bleaching a stripping? because I think they actually stripped it..
Note * should've combined thread. Like I said my hair was chest length and now shoulder length. She has quite short hair around neck length this friend of mine and then other one had chest length. It seems that some people just do not react well with hair bleach.
