maybe my teacher was wrong and its not the silicone but this woman had used pantene all her life and once the bleach was applied and she was placed under the dryer it fried so maybe it is something to do with heat reacting.. but i just think you are better to be safe and just use another brand when bleach bathing

It was more likely the added heat than anything. I didn't think you were supposed to use heat with bleach as the bleach itself creates a heat reaction.
It's honestly silly to ostracize an entire brand of haircare products on a whim over something half-remembered and that may not be entirely accurate. But that's just my opinion... and it may not be a shared one.
sorry i didnt mean to upset anyone.. its just what i was taught so i thought i would share it to help people..
I'm not upset. I can't speak for anyone else. There is a lot of advice and exchange of information here. The forum moderators do work really hard to keep this an open but friendly atmosphere. I personally wasn't trying to discourage you or make you feel poorly. I'm just trying to bring some balance to the argument against Pantene is all.
I don't think anyone is upset and I'm sorry if I made you feel that way 🙂
I'm just very into critical thinking. If something doesn't sound right to me I want to know why. Honestly, if this is true then I will be the first to warn any one off Pantene. If something isn't right though, I hate it being perpetuated as there's way too much of that already.
In this case I would love to know more and get to the bottom of it. But there's so many variables there that the fact she's been using Pantene all her life means almost nothing. It does seem a lot more likely the heat would more likely cause this to happen, or such a host of other things. The video could also be faked in order to put people off Pantene, I've heard of weirder stuff!
I was actually talking to my boyfriend about it last night, whilst neither of us are chemists (or scientists at all) it does seem like an easy thing to test, and we actually wondered if this bleach bath tutorial actually counts as one test? Where are the forum scientists when you need them?! Lol
I don't think anyone's upset, it just seems like a bit of an odd thing to say when it doesn't seem very plausible.
Hi all, just wondering if anybody could answer a couple of questions for me:
Is bleach bathing weaker than using live colour XXL platinum blonde?
And if not, would it be possible to make a less damaging bleach bath version of Live XXL by doing the shampoo thingy to it? I just need to do my roots and the top part of my hair (ish) because my purple will no longer wash out and I'm wanting to go pink.
hi !
Great tutorial!
I was wondering, i have a slight problem, I've been doing highlights for 4 years now, and I dyed my roots dark reddish pink 6 months ago(permanent), and since then the color had faded to a red ginger color that I hated -r- so I bleached all my hair so that I could use semi permanent hair dyes instead. My hair is pretty blond now except for some strands of my old hair ( which is very light brown, dirty blond) that didn't lift when I bleached it + the places where my roots used to be red are now this copper tint ( i use purple toners that work miracles on my roots and most my hair except places that are too dark yellow and copper )
Do you think a bleach bath would get rid of the weird colors that are left in my hair? thank you for any help that you could bring !! 🙂 🙂 🙂

A bleach bath will always be weaker than a full bleach, and you can absolutely do a bleach bath version of XXL--just follow the ratios posted in the beginning of the thread.

It might, but red is notorious for staining, so you might have to grow it out if a bleach bath doesn't work. Make sure it's been a month minimum since you last bleached it and that your hair is in good condition still. Clarify wash it and don't condition, let it air dry and then judge the texture of your hair. If it is dry or brittle at all, you really shouldn't be putting any more bleach on it (not even a bleach bath), but if it feels strong and healthy then you can try to lift out the remnants of colour.

Ok great i'll try it ! if my hair is too dry i'll just grow it out, but i take really good care of it ( apart from bleaching..) so i should be okay! thank you very very much !!! 😀
Can anyone help me please?
Has anyone with coloured hair, red / purple / blue done this method to strip colour out of their hair? have you got photos that show how it goes?

It will be different for everyone, that's the hard truth. Many have though. It should really be a last resort after trying the methods in this thread. http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=1704.0
could I use the XXL live lighting kit to do this?
could I use the XXL live lighting kit to do this?
Yes, as it is essentially a bleach kit. Mix the XXL up first and then add your clear/clarifying shampoo and apply.
How much does bleach bathing smell?
My bf has severe Asthma & it kicks his lungs in if I dye my hair (except semi perms), paint my nails, spray deodorant etc in the same room.. & even up to 2 hours later :-/
Because of this I normally sort my hair out when I know he's not going to be home for a few hours, but I'm seriously impatient & want to do my hair tonight lol
