Bleach baths are a lot gentler than straight bleach, which means less damage to your hair.  As they are gentler and lighten gradually, they are safe to use every 1-2 weeks instead of once a month.

You start at the tips and work towards the roots as the heat from your head will speed up the lightening process, so this will result in a more even colour throughout.  The only time you should start at the roots is if they are quite dark.

thanks hun that makes sence, i remember now, think ill work from tips up but might add alittle extra heat just below my roots as my roots plus a good 2 inch are not fading well at all... think its cause of the affinage b i use, ( think its perm ) hopefully itll be ok ...plus i dont have any clarifying shampoo, do i really need to get it or can u just use any bog standered cheap shampoo for normal hair, got loads of my kids tesco own brand apple shampoo?

I'm pretty sure you can use any shampoo, as long as it's clear.

Did this tonight, quite happy with it! Didn't put enough shampoo, tho, but I think it was fine. Left coconut oil in my hair for a little over an hour and then left the bleach bath in for ~25 minutes. Used soooo much conditioner after (to get rid of the coconut oil, too) that it was a bit suddy lol.

My roots were black and are now orange! Might do another BB next week cos I can't stand this color.

How much bleach bath should I use for my ends ? Is it possible to only put it on the ends?

Hi Spaulding,
1. Bleach baths are very liquidy so it's up to you, but I find it easier to massage it into my hair. If you were just to do roots, then using a tint brush would be helpful.

2. Only leave the bleach bath on as long as it says on your blonde dye - so if it says 45 minutes, only do 45 minutes. If you leave it longer than the recommended time you can fry your hair. If your roots are dark, it's likely you won't get it pale enough to tone in one bleach bath session. For example, my roots are a medium brown and after 3 bleach baths they were the right colour to tone. Also, if you need to even it out, then only apply a bleach bath to your roots if it's the only part of your hair that needs lightening.

3. Yes, the glass jug will be fine. The only thing you shouldn't mix bleach in is metal.

As for your white toner, if the colour has been faded by the sun I would say that it's expired. I wouldn't use it.

Also, just thought I'd mention it would be worth using coconut oil while you bleach to help the condition of your hair.

Ok, I have both a box kit of bleach (H&M) and the powder developer to make a bleach bath, and a jar of coconut oil. I did a regular bleaching last night, but it's really patchy (yeah, doing it yourself in partial darkness may not be the best idea, I know).

The coconut oil; do you put that on before a bleach/bleach bath and put the bleach on top of it, so to speak? That's what I'm thinking, but just double checking. I need my hair colored by Monday, so I need it ready bleached this weekend and can't wait weeks/months for this process. I'm thinking I'll make a bleach bath out of my last bleaching kit. My hair is in fairly good condition, but I don't want to test my luck and over-bleach. Of course, I forgot to put coconut oil in it before bleaching, but what's done is done. I also have Herbal essences clean freak (?) clarifying shampoo, and have not been able to find the Pantene anywhere, not even in London while visiting...It's a clarifying shampoo, so I'm thinking ti should be ok to use in a bleach bath.

You really really shouldn't put peroxide on your hair again since you only bleached it last night, you will really damage your hair

May sound like a stupid question but if you have shoulder length hair, how much of each should you be using or is the same regardless?
