Hi, I have quite a few questions about bleaching my hair, I'm sorry if they are questions that have been asked before and If they are silly questions, I'm really clueless.
I've been using nice n easy SB1 natural light neutral summer blonde for at least 5 years. I am naturally blonde but a few shades darker than what colour I end up with.
Recently I haven't been 100% happy with the results, so after a lot of research online I've realised I wasn't leaving it on for long enough, it scares me leaving it on for too long as I use it ever 8 weeks or so I'm worried about damaging my hair, but after reading stuff online I've realised the error of my ways and as long as it's just your roots it should be ok? Anyway I think that's what I've established. (Sorry I really am silly when it comes to colouring/bleaching hair)
So through all my research I've also read that using nice n easy and other box dyes/bleach can be bad for you hair, that they use quite a high developer? I'm happy with the colour from nice n easy, but I'm wondering if it would be better to buy different bleach? And if I was to do this would I still get the same colour I get from nice n easy? are bleach and nice n easy the same thing?
I have also read about toner, I have been using provoke touch of silver shampoo, which has helped but would it be better to use a toner? If so which one? Generally I have yellow tones I would like to neutralise.
Last thing, some how I've ended up with having slightly darker patches half way down my hair. It's only slightly darker than the rest but would still like to correct this, is this possible to do myself if I use foils and only get get the bleach only on that part of the hair, if so would I need a different type of bleach as its only slightly darker?
Any help would be really appreciated, sorry for being so long.
Thank you
You say you aren't happy with the results lately; what is different now - just your concern about damage? If you are just doing your roots and you haven't had any concerns about the condition or color for for the last five years then I don't see the harm in continuing to use those products. I don't know about the developer in that particular dye but it is true that many box dyes contain a high level developer that can be as or more damaging than bleaching, but as I said, if you like the color and don't have dryness or breakage issues I wouldn't worry about it. If it isn't broken, why try to fix it? π As for the dark area, if you were very careful you could probably spot treat it but I'd suggest swapping out the developer in the box for a lower volume.
Hey thank you for replying. I wasn't happy because i felt it had an orangey tint to it that It didn't have before. But I've fixed that by leaving the bleach on longer plus using the shampoo helps too.
I am a little worried about damage to my hair, it has always been frizzy and dry and I don't feel like the bleach makes it worse. I was worried because of what I had read about box dyes and bleach. But I think I might make a trip to sallys for the darker patches.
Again thank u for your reply.
You're welcome. π Have you tried coconut oil? Many people have found it to be very helpful with dryness and frizz. It's also recommended for coating the hair before bleaching (at least one hour before) and could help if applied before using your dye. You can always try it on a small section first to be sure.
If you bleach your hair regularly it might not be such a bad Idea to buy somthing you can mix yourself; I've been using boxed bleach for years as well (and it was the cheapest) and recently bought Blondme which was apparently "so much better". Comparing the prizes showed that they cost pretty much the same over time. (you might even save some money?) That way you can also choose which kind of developer you actually want to use! π
About toner: If you're happy with the results you get with purple shampoo there's no need to use a toner?
There are some toners that use developer and apparently lift your hair the tniiest bit as well, but I've never tried them, I don't think they're necessary though. ;D
Hi, yes I'm going to try the coconut oil, anything that might help the frizz without heat is always worth a try lol.
I do really want to stop using nice n easy, my hair is naturally dark blonde and I've read the developer is really high, so think maybe 6% volume developer would be better?
Another silly question, if I start using bleach on my roots from sallys will it still be the same colour all over? My ends are very light blonde.
Thank u again guys. I'll look up blondme
I can't make any specific suggestions but you can probably find a color that is similar to what you are using at Sally and the you can go ahead and use it with the 6 percent developer (it is equivalent to 20 volume).
