Blacky brown to blonde.

Hello! I'm wanting to go from this colour

(Only the dark part!)

To blonde so that I can put a red dye over the top. I've bought some Jerome Russell lightener (I have two boxes), and I was wondering if anyone thinks that it will work? I always get a bit nervous when it comes to dying my hair. I haven't put any chemical dye on any of it for over 2 months, and have only had two applications of black in total. The black went over a faded green which of course was blonde underneath that. I used Loreal Casting Creme in Licorice to get it black, and even though it was in the semi permanent section it seems to not shift properly. In two months it is still mainly black with the odd blondey brown part where it's faded slightly.
What do you guys think? Oh, I also haven't washed my hair in a few days so that I could let the natural oils build up for if I do go for it and use the lightener.

Edit: Just looked and the Jerome Russell kits I have are the Maximum lift ones that are 40vol and I feel even more scared. Could I turn them into bleach baths?

Don't use the lightener! Not yet anyway. You only need to get to a ginger to get a nice bright red.

Just use a colour remover. I like Decolour remover from boots, others like jobazz or colour b4. You can use that up to three times. Unless you have staining, that'll probably get you light enough.

I got rid of 5 years of permanent black with 3 boxes of colorb4 extra strength.
As Janine said, try a color remover first.

Another colour b4 fan here. Even if you dont get a good base for red initially, it'll give you a base to work with a lower strength lightening method. you never need 40.

I've bought some Scott Cornwall colour remover and am planning on using it tonight. Shall I do Part 3 of the steps and use the "conclude balm" before I put on my Poppy Red, or should I leave that out so the Poppy Red sticks more? Bit worried about using the colour remover as I've never used it before.
