first post bare with me -
so naturally i have dark brown hair which has been dyed a range of colour since i was around 12 and im currently 19.
a few months ago i decided i wanted to go pastel purple and did so through colour removers and bleach bathing.
this is the last photo i took of it before i dyed it again when it had gone kindof blue.
after this i dyed it a very red pink, looks more red than it was in the photo.
then i dyed it brown then eventually black which is almost faded back to the brown.
im missing my light/bright hair and what im wondering is if i use multiple colour removers (think you can use them up to 3 times?) will i be able to get my ends back to almost the pastel shade so i can get silver/grey ends or would i have to resort back to bleaching.
i would probably use colour b4 extra first as its what ive used before and ive had good results. Then try http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-Hair-Colour-Remover-Includes-Clarifier-for-Fashion-Colours_1422861/ (anyone had any experience with this one?) to remove red semi tones i put in.
if any one could give me their thoughts/advice id be grateful *thx*
People have very mixed results with colour removers, especially on semi permanent dye. You might be lucky and get back to a light, even base but you might not. It's certainly a good idea to use them though as any colour they remove means you can bleach less. If you haven't been dying your hair black for too long then you should have alright results removing it with three colour removers. Hopefully it won't have stained the cuticle.
I've found decolour remover works best on semi permanent hair dye for me, but it is pricey.
Once you're done removing you can wait at least a week then do a mild bleach bath if you need some lift still. If you're happy to go with a more vibrant colour rather than pastel then you won't need incredibly light hair.
I totally agree with Marthakins. I dyed my pastel hair dark brown once and managed to get back to a light base (with a few uneven bits) with decolour remover, but I had only used the dye once.
Was the black dye you used a semi or a permanent?
Thanks for your replies I used a cheap permanent brown once then another cheap permanent black once which from experience usually fades a lot and pretty quickly so I don't think it 'sticks' to my hair well
I'm only wanting to do the ends so it shouldnt come out too uneven my ends usually come out lightest and the most even
I found redken 06t iron online which I like the look of has anyone used this and what's the darkest base shade you think it would work on? Meaning will I have to get back as light as possible or will it work on a darkish blonde? And does anyone know if it would fade to a lighter grey or go a funny colour?
Lighter colour but you could you color remover or head n shoulders . or a clarifying shampoo. But make sure you do a hair mask once a week. To get it back to normal.
I have had really good results removing pinks and reds with the color b4 fashion colors. And i also managed to remove 5years build up of permanent black dye with the extra strength.
With the fashion colors, i never use all the pre claryfier (even though i have mid back length hair) and i save it to use for further fading if i need it later on. That stuff works wonders on pink semis. Havent had luck with blues though.
