Allergy or irritation?

So a few weeks ago I attempted at doing my roots with XXL platinum blonde, but had to wash it off within minutes because my ears were red and I had a rash down my neck and on the side off my face. I was too scared to do a full on bleach so last night I used a bit of loreal sunkiss jelly. Il be honest I left it on a few hours but planned on washing it out, after a few hours I could feel a part of my head, my one ear and my neck burning, I went to check and my scalp looked fine but I had a small rash extending from my one red ear. When I washed my hair and neck the rash vanished. Would you say that was a reaction or a burn? There was no bumps or blisters.

Don't ever leave something like the Sunkiss Jelly on for hours ever again. Ever! I don't know if it says you can on the pack, but it does have peroxide as far as I'm aware and so very harmful to hair and skin.

A burn is a reaction of sorts. I'd say this is probably somewhere in between. The last time I bleached a few weeks ago when it was very hot I got a bad burn on my neck too, because it was so hot and it worked a lot faster. So it could have been the heat last time you used the XXL making it work faster. Once it's happened though, that area will be sensitive for while. Depending on how deep the burn was it could be quite a long time. Leaving it on for that long could be part of the reason too.

I know, I'm usually the one to tell people off for using this kind of stuff.  With the xxl I came out in a couple of scabs on my scalp but everywhere else settled down. Yeah the heat would make sense with sun kiss at least since I used a hair dryer before hand 😐 I imagine if it was on my skin at that time it would burn. My skin has settled down again but my scalp feels a bit sore, nothing serious though. I'm just worried about allergic reactions in general, I don't want to do my roots in a few weeks and have a full blown allergic reaction!

Obviously, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I doubt it's an allergy. You left it on for hours, it's more likely that. I doubt you'll have a reaction, but it might be worth trying to do a skin test... though I'm not sure how you really do it with bleach...

Yeah, it says to leave the bleach on your skin for 2 days I think for the patch test, any one who doesn't at the very least get burned is a hero lol I usually do a patch test with xxl (for the development time), I just got lazy!

It won't be an allergy with the XXL. That was almost certainly a burn. It was burning and gave you scabs and it was hot. It just worked faster than usual and so it burnt. I also don't think it was an allergy with the sunkiss, just a case of over exposure on delicate skin.

Well that rash on my neck is back, or maybe I just didn't notice it In the morning? It hasn't spread but feels like a burn. Great -_- guess I better stay away from bleach for a while then.

I've been patch-tested for allergies by the local hospital, they do indeed stick a load of stuff to you and it stays on for 2 days.  eg they stick it on monday, take it off & look on wednesday, then look on friday as well.  Then you can have a bath  πŸ˜›  lol

For skin-testing hair bleach though I'd only leave it on for the maximum time you plan to have it on your head - then rinse it off well as you would, and monitor the area (with no further washing) for 2-4 days.

Put some coconut oil on your red areas. It is really good for the skin and has antiseptic  properties.
