Advice on dye issue?

Hey,

so I got my hair bleached last week, (in preparation for dying it red) got it done in a salon as I had never done it before so didn't really trust myself to do it at home. It was £60 and ginger...which I expected and that was okay, but it was patchy and the mids and bottoms were a lot lot darker than the top. I went ahead and dyed it the day after, and it was fine for about 5 days. But now the bottom is turning brown, and the top is still bright red.

I put some dye on the bottom and left it on for 40 minutes today just to see if it would temporarily cover the brown but no luck. I know I need to bleach it again but just wanted some advice. I used special effects devlish to dye it on top of bleached hair. Should I use a dye stripper first, then bleach, then dye again? Also compared to bleach how damaging is using dye stripped on your hair?

Sorry, so many questions, I shall be quiet now  ::)

(This photo doesn't show the brown much but I think you can see what I mean)

Might be a good idea to just bleach bath the ends you are unhappy with then re-dye. It won't damage it as much as full bleach and should even it up pretty well.

Colour strippers are a bit hit and miss with veggie dyes. Some people find they work great, but others no change. As for damage, they don't really, but may make your hair a bit dry. Although again it's an individual thing and whether the ingredients agree with your hair or not.

Hope this helps and if anyone thinks it's not right please correct me!

That sounds about right to me hun.

Use head and shoulders on the darker ends of your hair to get as much of the red out as you can coz you'll have a little bit of a build up there.

Then bleach bath the darker sections, try not to overlap with the lighter bits, get a friend to help at the back. Once you've done that you should be good to go again.

I agree with what's already been said - try bleach bathing the ends until they match the rest that you're happy with, then go over it with the Devilish again.  This should even things up!

Will the fact that I'm bleaching dyed hair that was already pre bleached make a difference? Should I still leave it on as long? xxx

If you're just bleach bathing instead of a full on bleach, it shouldn't make any difference that your hair was already bleached, but you should wait a month (with deep conditioning/repair treatments during that month) after the initial bleaching to begin the bleach bath.  However, everyone's hair is different, and if you don't think there's any damage to your hair from the initial bleaching, then a relatively weak bleach bath just to lighten the base colour of the ends should be fine.
