Hi everyone, I'm Natasha. I have a couple of questions about bleaching my hair... A little back story, a little over two years ago I underwent chemotherapy. Ever since my hair has grown in waaay darker than it used to, I used to new a level 7 dirty blonde and am now about a level 4/5 brown with natural blonde highlights. I recently decided to go blonde and it's been quite some time since I have bleached my hair (used to do crazy colors in high school). My hair has always lifted very easily so I went and got an ash blonde dye with a 20 developer, enter lovely brassy orangeish/yellow hair. In hindsight I should have realized what used to work may not now. Moving on, it's been 3 weeks since I did the first attempt at lightening and I'd like some second opinions on if my hair looks healthy enough to bleach. It feels wonderful, no real change in texture, shine, or anything. Second question is based on current color bleach bath or regular bleaching (using wella blondor and 20 volume), I have no issues with waiting or odd colors. I've attached pictures, the first shows the condition of my hair but makes my hair seem darker and more orange than it is. The second picture shows the color more accurately. Thanks in advance for your help π
It looks like it is darker through the lengths, did you have old dye on when you bleached? If not, you need to keep the lengths covered when the product is on to prevent it drying out and keep it warm.
It certainly looks healthy enough to bleach, to be certain wash with clarifying shampoo, no conditioner and let it air dry. That will show you its true condition.
Do a strand test to see how quickly it lifts with 20 vol.
IME Wella Blondor lifts very quickly, you may need to drop a level to give you more time to apply it. If you are looking to minimise damage i would go with 10 vol (or half 20 vol half shampoo) and apply to the darker lengths first.
Both of those photos where taken after washing with Neutrogena anti residue shampoo, no conditioner and then air dried. I had a bit of demi permanent in the ends but did three rounds of colorfix prior to lightening. I'm using 20 volume because I'm also using olaplex and they suggest going up a volume. Yeah the Strand test lightenes very quickly with the wella and seemed to be a good condition after as well.
