Thanks Marthakins! However I'm still confused as the bleach wont be touching the pretoned/bleached hair that I am avoiding in my touch up?

Hey guys!

Thought I would give an update to how it all went.

I had a haircut and the guy cut it very short and only ended up with about 2 1/2" on top. So I decided to risk it and do an all over bleach. It worked out great and got that great pale yellow "base" to work.

This is where things got a bit tricky though....normally I would go on to tone but this happened..

I used a vol 10 creme developer with a Wella liquid haircolor 811/8N (light blonde) left it on for 45 mins and then conditioned it out. However it barley even took the new color at all  :-[ :-[

So I then tried Wella color 10GV (honey blonde) next and still had that pale yellow bleach color shine through, barley any change at all!

So I ran a color remover through it and then applied an ash 71/2 A and now it looks great.

Upon reflection the 10GV and 811 may have been too blonde for me, but what happens in the future if I do want to use these and actually get them to work!? what would I do?!

Thank you in advance you knowledgable hair people!!  *yay* *1*

TBH it is not a good idea to use an oxidative dye directly after bleaching.
You can tone out the yellow in your base without using any more damaging products. Silvering shampoo/conditioner or violet dye diluted in conditioner are often all you need.
Really hard to advise without a pic though.

I was always under the impression (but am sure I am mistaken!!) that once bleached to a certain level, you can add any color/or toner. However if you are just toning it with a purple shampoo etc.. you don't really get a choice to what color or tone you want?

On a side note, I once used a demi-permanent (with no Volume developer, just a simple creme developer) and the result was great! I think I stayed away from it this time as I wanted a permanent color, however maybe I should just continue to use the demi's as I had such great results?

Double processing is risky, your hair is at its most vulnerable directly after bleaching. That is why it is better to use direct dyes to tone.
All developer has some level of peroxide, that is how it works (as an oxidising agent)
Everyone's hair is different, so do whatever works for you. having short hair means you can get away with more processing than someone who wishes to preserve their hair.
