A touch up!

Hi Guys!

So I am in the stage of touching up my hair and you were all so helpful last time I would love to pick your brains again.

I bleached my hair and then toned it and it looked great thanks to your advice. As I am a guy my haircut is long Ontop and short on the sides and grows v quick! After my last hair cut I re bleached my sides as they were my old brown color and the roots at the front of my head for display. However now after I get my cut tomorrow I will end up all my old color on my short hair on the sides and about a 50 50 ratio of roots to the old bleached blonde on the top.

It it really worth delicately bleaching all areas but the old bleached hair? I would end up bleaching everything but about 30% of my hair!

Soo (sorry for very long explanation) can I just re bleach it all and ignore the fact that I would be rebleaching 30% bleached hair?

How long is the long part? It really depends on how resilient your hair is, worst case scenario is you end up with candy floss textured hair on the tips that needs cutting off. If your hair is quite light naturally and has only been bleached once it should be fine though. If you are planning on keeping it short rather than growing it out the parts that get bleached a second time will be cut off at your next haircut anyway, so a lot of people with short hair don't worry too much about bleaching twice.

My hair is very thick and I have not shampood it for a while. After I bleached it did not feel damaged, the only time it feels slightly staw like is when i do shampoo it which is not often! After my hair cut my hair will be about 3" on top and 1" roots 2" older bleached/toned hair...?

Bleach damage is cumulative, which is why we try and not bleach the same hair more than absolutely necessary. 3" hair is about 6 months old, I would try and avoid getting bleach on the already bleached parts if possible.

I'm just really keen on the idea of doing an "all over" and then an " all over " tone just to really uniform the color. Maybe a bleach bath?

If I do just bleach the needed parts, can I still use the toner all over?

Bleaching all your hair for the same time won't necessarily give you an even colour. You need to bleach the regrowth to the same level as you did originally, then you can tone it all.

Ok! However when I tone can I apply on the old bleached parts to give them a "freshen up" as well? Do you also know any tips on doing the roots on short hair? Thank you Wicked Pixie!

You can tone all of it, any toner that is left on your hair will probably disappear when you rinse the bleach off anyway.
I would use coconut oil and sectioning clips if it is long enough to clip. A really good tint brush makes applying the bleach accurately much easier.

When you say the toner will fall out after I wash the bleach out, what part do
You mean? If I'm just bleaching my new growth I wouldn't have any toner on it anyway? Or have I missed something! Sorry!

When you wash the bleach out it will wash over the rest of your hair taking any remaining toner out with it, so you will have a nice base to put the toner over.

Oh I see, so should I maybe just give it a quick 10 second massage all over at the end to wipe it out toner  of the pre toned areas? Just to make sure the bleach hits it but doesn't stay on long enough to to damage/lighten?

There isn't any need to, I think you are overthinking it. If you are really worried post a pic of your current colour. What did you use to tone it?

I'm just a bit confused how the bleach on the sides and roots will manage to strip the toner from the pre bleached hair by washing over them for a couple of seconds! Sorry you're right I'm sure I am probably overthinking it!

I use a 30 vol for the bleach and then q 10 vol developer with my toner

Because toner doesn't have a huge amount of pigment and bleach washes over it for a good few minutes!
